What Is Dysania?

Dysania is described as the state of difficulty getting up in the morning. In this article we tell you everything you need to know.
What is dysania?

Dysania is a state of difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. As a condition it is not formally recognized, although it is used to describe someone with extreme difficulty getting up. Certainly, what separates someone with dysania from simply being tired is that they may suffer from some form of anxiety, which makes it extremely difficult for them to start the day on the right foot.

Dysania, anxiety when getting up

Many people feel tired, lazy, listless, and exhausted when the alarm goes off. However, people with dysania often experience real anxiety in this normal circumstance.  Even if those affected have slept for longer than recommended, it may be difficult to get out of bed.

Therefore, this condition is very different from simply being tired. Many people feel exhausted when the alarm goes off first thing in the morning. Instead of feeling this ‘frustration’ when it comes to getting out of bed, those with the condition will feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or even weakened by the idea.

This condition is commonly related to depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, and other anxiety disorders. People with this condition are often unaware that they have a psychological problem. But dysania can be treated with the help of a psychologist and by taking a few simple actions.

Tips to combat dysania

While there is no official treatment or cure for dysania sufferers, there are some small steps that can be taken to try to reduce symptoms. Here are some tips. Take note!

1. Relaxation

Most adults need between six and nine hours.  Relaxation is one of the keys, so try to relax before bed with a relaxing bath or light exercise such as yoga stretches.

2. Eliminate distractions

Second, don’t forget to eliminate distractions like phones and computers  before bed, as they negatively affect sleep.

3. Stay well hydrated

Going to sleep thirsty can cause you to sleep poorly at night, which in turn makes it harder to get up in the morning. Also, don’t forget that proper hydration leads to higher energy levels throughout the day.

4. Get some more sleep

Lastly, try to regulate how much you sleep. Most adults need between six and nine hours. If you have a strict work schedule that requires an early morning arrival, make getting to bed earlier a priority. Conversely, if you work nights, set your alarm an hour or two later each morning, whenever possible.
