Children do not come with an instruction book. Being a mom doesn’t mean knowing everything, no matter how basic it may seem. Learning how to change a diaper takes your practice and your technique. Also, who said that changing diapers is just for moms?

Although it may seem difficult at first, changing a diaper ends up being easy. There are many opportunities a day to practice, so in no time you become an expert.

However, sometimes out of fear – the baby is very fragile – and sometimes out of disgust – after all, changing a diaper is not the most pleasant job in the world, why are we fooling ourselves – many people around the world baby throw balls out at the time of change.

Keep in mind that changing the diaper is an important thing that, if not done well, can lead to problems for the child. And leaving the child with everything he owns there because the person who is with him does not know what to do is almost dramatic. Urine and feces are not only bothersome, they can lead to infections, not to mention the stinging and irritation that the baby suffers in the meantime.

In the end, changing a baby’s diaper is not so bad. You just have to be calm and know you can do it. Next, let’s see step by step how to change a baby’s diaper and, above all, what issues must be taken into account so as not to give rise to later problems.

Step 1: Make sure you have everything you need

Before putting the child on the changing table or in the place where you are going to change him and before removing the dirty diaper, make sure that you have everything you need so as not to leave the child naked and unattended while you take what you need. The baby can fall off the changing table in an unexpected turn or pee on it, taking advantage of the comfort that it is without the diaper on.

What you will need is a clean diaper (if they are disposable, better two, especially at the beginning, in case a strip breaks), cleaning materials (wipes or cotton cloths with water) and clean clothes in case it has escaped something. It is advisable to have a towel under the baby so that the place of change does not get stained and so that the child does not feel cold when you remove the diaper, before putting the clean one. If you are going to give him some type of cream, have it also prepared.

Step 2: Remove the dirty diaper

Loosen the tabs on the diaper. Before removing the diaper, clean the baby well. If it is a girl, pay special attention to cleaning the folds of the genital area.

If there is a lot of stool, you can use the diaper itself to remove the maximum amount possible, gently dragging the stool, as long as it is not too liquid. Gently cleanses without rubbing. If you use disposable wipes, leave them on the dirty diaper.

With one hand, gently grasp the baby’s ankles and lift him up until the bottom of the support base detaches and pulls out the diaper. If necessary, clean again. Dry or let the diaper area dry to avoid moisture problems. Wrap the disposable wipes inside the diaper and close it using the diaper’s own tabs. Keep it out of the baby’s reach

Step 3: Put on the clean diaper

Open the clean diaper, stretching it. Don’t touch the reeds yet. Lift the baby back up by the ankles and slide the diaper underneath. The part of the tabs, still glued, is the one that has to be left behind. Once placed from behind it is time to apply creams or lotions, if you wish.

Bring the front of the diaper toward your belly button. Pull out the tabs at the back and glue them to the front, loosely but tight enough so that the diaper won’t move. You can remove and put the tabs as many times as necessary until you place it well. Do not leave wrinkles and leave the part around the baby’s abdomen well stretched.

Last in this step, make sure that the inner barriers of the diaper are in place and that they are not attached. Use your fingers by sliding them along the barrier, from front to back and back to front again. If the barriers stick or are inwards, urine and even feces will escape.

You can now dress the baby. You’ve got it!
