The Holidays Are Here, Now What?

The holidays are here, now what?

The arrival of the holidays is expected for many good reasons, but it also causes some concern for parents, because the children will be left with a lot of free time to do mischief. Once the holidays arrived, the need arises to fill many available spaces, with activities that make the day less tedious.

Although being free from some daily occupations is a good opportunity to share as a family and fulfill the plans that we have postponed for so long, the time of the holidays comes when we no longer have anything to do with the children. In this particular, adults have many options that do not exist for them, such as resting for example.

In the same way, although the little ones should also have their rest, it is not always something they are willing to do. However, rest from schoolwork is essential for the development of children, therefore the fact that they are at home is enough for them to relax even if they are busy in other activities.

But, the first thing is to take it easy and plan very well, to start we must consider what things we would like and what we can do. Also, it would be very valuable if we kept the same rules as every day, although some are made more flexible, because responsibilities must be maintained especially in this period when there is more availability to comply with them.

Children can be distracted by almost anything, depending on their age; but although they will never recognize it, the departure from the academic routine tends to bore them from time to time.

To avoid those moments when they become stressful because they cannot find what to do, we recommend setting schedules to perform basic tasks and teach them to do it in a fun way, other recommendations may be.

  • Schedule homework with the incentive that they will be released as soon as they are finished. This process is recommended to teach them to take responsibility for their own things, which will give them the independence to make changes when the school season returns.
For example, they can be taught to make their beds, tidy their rooms, and dress on their own. These activities may delay your departure for school, so it is a good idea to try them on vacation.
  • Play is a very important aspect of children’s lives, that is why at one stage of their childhood they just want to play. Although they will surely figure this out on their own, you can help them by organizing board games, in which the whole family can participate. This, in addition to keeping them entertained, will also help them strengthen the family bond.

    • It is advisable to listen to their opinion on a particular plan, they know what they want and if it is easy to comply with it, there is no reason not to take their suggestion. If we had plans to travel, it would be great for everyone to agree on the place they want to visit.
    • Excess activities is not a recommended option either, because it is important to seek a break and moments to share in a relaxed way. It is common to enroll them in camps, vacation courses and keep them active every day, but then we would be missing that opportunity for them to release stress.
    • It is also advisable to promote educational activities that are aimed at improving certain academic aspects that need reinforcement. In the same way, they can be motivated to read, as something pleasant and free from school ties.
    • It is advisable for parents to take advantage of this time to share with their children, create a moment to get to know them more, ask them questions and motivate them to express their opinion and emotions.
    • It never hurts to plan visits to parks, zoos, concerts, sporting events, and activities that you don’t do often. There are a variety of entertaining places for the family that the little ones are sure to love and will allow you to collect the best memories of childhood.
    • Let us ensure that the activities we do on vacation are not very similar to those that are carried out on a daily basis, despite the fact that we know that homework has no rest.

In this sense, to avoid falling into the same routine, the times of watching television or going to sleep can be made more flexible and the time when it is usually done can be modified.
