7 reasons not to give your child too many toys

Few topics are as sensitive as those that upset the way we raise children. The gifts we give to the little ones are almost always the reason why they sometimes reproach us. In today’s age, many parents make up for deficiencies with gifts. We believe that giving him toys replaces the time we don’t give him.

However, the main reason for buying a lot of toys is that we are crazy about them. We give them because we want and enjoy it, and in general, we do not accept reproaches in this regard. He is my son and I give him what I did not have, everything he wants he deserves it and if I can pay it is my business. However, some research has revealed that this decision is not always the correct one. Let’s see what this is about.

Is it wrong to give him too many toys?

Somehow it is justified that parents want to see their children happy. As might be expected, the moment they receive a gift toy is the greatest happiness for them, even if it doesn’t last long. Seeing them smile is our joy too, that’s why we do it.

Recently, researchers have found a probable risk when we give too much to little ones. They explain a condition called “hyper-gifted child syndrome.” This problem is more related to the type of gift you receive, than to the fact that it is given.

What happens if we give him toys?

It is not bad to give him toys, especially when they can favor the child’s imagination. There are also educational and entertaining ones. However, problems begin to arise when we exaggerate the number of toys. Some children are really gifted, but it is a limit that must be set by the parents, not the little one.

It doesn’t take much for a child to get used to receiving gift toys. They are usually received without making any effort, which prevents you from assessing it in the right way. Receiving a well-deserved gift is not the same as just accepting one more. This results in the child not being aware of the true importance of being given a gift. Other reasons not to give too many toys are the following.

  • His imagination is more limited, because he only gets used to playing as the toys indicate. This causes the child to stop creating things that are on their mind.
  • He only has fun with toys
  • Little by little they lose their enthusiasm for toys because they have too many
  • Most gifts are accumulated and forgotten, because they will always have some favorites
  • You will have more work to tidy up your room, which is why most of the time there will be clutter
  • In some cases, these children become selfish and capricious. To a large extent this type of attitude prevails into adulthood
  • The child is prone to frustration, since in the real world you cannot have everything. This problem can also occur in adulthood, where it is usually very different from when they were children

Other options to give toys

As we have said, toys are important in the development of the child. However, as we know, they end up feeling more attracted to some in particular. Experts recommend that we avoid giving them toys with too many lights, sounds and functions, as they need to be creative. In addition, there are other options that can be great gifts, for example, the following.

  • Trips and walks. Let children get used to struggling to earn a ride or a trip. There are no more beautiful memories than those of family trips; children tend to appreciate these moments a lot
  • Books are irreplaceable. Developing the habit of reading from childhood is the best gift you can give a person. Give a book as a gift and teach him to enjoy the art of reading
  • Give family moments. Most family activities are enjoyed when they are consensual. Ask them what they would like to do, if they want to go to the zoo or to see the sea. Comment that you want to give them the opportunity to discover those places that they are passionate about
  • From time to time, it is worth indulging in a great ice cream or make a party favors of healthy sweets.
