5 crafts to celebrate the summer

Summer is the time of year when children have the most free time. Sometimes this can make them bored by having few activities to do. So that this does not happen, below we propose a series of crafts to celebrate the summer. These crafts will also be ideal to enjoy a family plan and exercise the creation and imagination of the little ones.

Crafts to celebrate the summer

1. Ice cream

Summer is synonymous with heat and good weather and, to combat high temperatures, one of the most consumed products at this time of year is ice cream. These foods delight the little ones because of the variety of flavors and shapes that they can acquire.

Therefore, making this craft to celebrate the summer will be a lot of fun for everyone. You can create two different types of ice cream: first, one in the shape of a cornet with balls and, second, in the shape of popsicles.

For the first type of ice cream, the necessary materials will be the following:

  • Brown cardboard.
  • Crepe paper.
  • Tail.

With the brown cardboard you will create a cone that will represent the ice cream cone, while with the pinocchio paper you will make balls of different colors simulating the flavors of ice cream. All this will be joined with glue.

For the second type of ice cream you will need:

  • Icecream sticks.
  • Tail.

The ice cream sticks will be the support of the same, while on the cardboard or EVA rubber of the colors you choose you will draw the shape of your polo shirt. All this, in the same way as in the previous ice cream, will be joined with glue.

2. Paper boats

Without a doubt,  one of the simplest and most typical crafts to celebrate the summer is boats. As we know, ships sail throughout the year. Although it is true that some children may associate them more with summer because they have enjoyed them discovering the sea.

To make these boats, the only material you need are sheets. You can even choose, if you want, sheets of different colors. You will not need glue or any gluing material since, with the folds corresponding to the folio, the paper boat will form itself.

3. Mermaids

Crafts with recycled objects are also a very good option for children. In the first place, you will teach them the importance of recycling and taking care of the environment and, secondly, you will be able to use materials without having to spend money on them.

Therefore, for this craft we will use the cardboard of the toilet paper as a recycled material. So, to create these mermaids you will need:

  • Carton of toilet paper.
  • Colour cardboard.
  • Tail.

The cardboard itself will be the mermaid’s body, while the hair and decorations, such as the bikini top and tail, will be created from different colored cardstock, and will be attached to the roll cardboard with the tail.

4. Shells, one of the funniest crafts to celebrate the summer

If you plan to enjoy a few days at the beach, you can take the opportunity to look for shells on it. In this way, the children will be entertained during the holidays and also at home doing the craft.

This activity will consist mainly of customizing the shells. To do this, you can use all kinds of materials, such as cardboard to include eyes, nose or mouth to the shell, even directly purchase eye stickers.

Painting shells is one of the easiest summer crafts to do.

If you collect white shells, you can also personalize them by painting them in different colors, adding hats, sunglasses or even tentacles with colored ribbons. It is about the child exploring his imagination to the fullest and always remembering to play with it during part of his summer.

Another alternative, using these shells as a base, is to create crabs. The body of the crab will be the shell while the legs can be created with pipe cleaners.

5. Fans

As we have already commented previously, summer is synonymous with heat. Sometimes the heat is hard to bear, so creating your own fans will be a great distraction for little ones. For this you will need:

  • Icecream sticks.
  • Colour cardboard.

You can create the fan with the shape and colors you want. A good way to encourage healthy eating in children can be to create fans shaped like fruits: watermelon, lemon or orange, among others.
